We are very excited with the opening of the new MCA Art Museum! Ahoy there Saturday crew! Today we are being treated to a ride on a special old Ferry through scenic Mooney Mooney Creek, departing from Bobbin Head. We will have a chance to relax in the beautiful National Park enjoying a relaxing lunch and some games with our fellow Saturday friends. All you Saturday Program animal lovers out there, this is the day for you! Come along with the Saturday team to Featherdale Wildlife Park in Blacktown for a day of fun with a great variety of Australian animals. All Saturday members will get to take a stroll through the park, stop for a picnic lunch with our furry friends, and cuddle up to the koalas in the "meet the animals" section of the park.

This is the day for people who THINK they CAN'Tclimb! Let us show you how. Yes that's right, it's time for you to throw on your rock climbing gear and get ready for an adventurous day of rock climbing with Saturday Program. We will be heading over to Brookvale Climbing House and rigging up the safety ropes to scale their rock walls. Everyone is welcome as the centre caters to all levels of rock climbing ability. Teppanyaki - the entertaining and fun way to try Japanese food. Today we are hoping to head out to our favourite Japanese restaurant so we can watch the chef throwing, chopping and catching food in a night which is more like a theatrical performance. In surprising ways we become part of the show and, if we're lucky, get to eat something. We will spend the morning creating a few fabulous outfits including hair and make-up, then venture around the School and maybe a park or two around Allambie to get the perfect back drop for our photo shoots. Everyone will get a chance at all roles from modelling, make-up artist to photographer and lighting person!

Wheelchairs welcome! Today we are going to do one of the coolest things possible as we head out west to the spectacular Sydney Ice Arena. We are able to cater to every ability level so don't be put off if you think you can't stay upright on the ice. Wheelchairs are more than welcome on the rink and we have other ways of getting people out on the ice and giving them a fantastic experience - After the skating we will head out to a nearby park and thaw out in the warm sunshine. Saturday June 02 – Sunday June 03 Commando Camp
We will depart NBI at 0900 hours and head off to an undisclosed location (don't worry mum & dad we will tell you where!) about 2 hours drive away. Upon arrival we will get decked out in our camoflague gear and get started on our mission for the weekend - have plenty of fun! We will go on stealth missions to capture the enemy, cook our dinner in camp HQ and communicate through walkie talkies. For the brave there may even be some obstacle courses or a flying fox!! At night we will bunker down in dorm rooms. Further details with confirmation…

Saturday March 10 Convict Day (Combined Outing)
Have you every wondered what it would be like to be a convict for a day? YES? Then come along for a journey back in time. We'll head to Hyde Park Barracks for a tour of where the convicts used to live. To get into the spirit, we can try on some leg-irons, lie in a convict hammock and wander the streets of 1820s Sydney on the giant map. Afterwards we will head to Hyde Park for a picnic and a bit of soccer, before heading home.

Today we are going to drive our bus into the city where we will park and jump on to an open top double decker bus. We will jump on the bus at Central station and head out east to the beautiful Bondi beach. We will get the chance to jump off the bus and stretch our legs once we arrive at bondi and there is the option of an easy coastal walk route along the waters edge from Bondi to Tamarama. Lunch looking along the glorious and oh so famous Bondi Beach is a must. So come and do something different as Saturday Program goes all tourist like.

Located next to St Mary's cathederal in the City Cook and Phillip Aquatic Centre has it all. A heated hydro pool for the cold blooded, a very shallow play pool with a slide and light wirl pool, and a wave pool designed so both bigger and smaller children alike can enjoy all the fun of waves safely. If you think your not the most confident swimmer but still love to splash around this is a great place for you.

Who wants to be a cowboy (or cowgirl)? Today the Saturday crew will take a scenic drive to the picturesque Glenworth Valley. We will be having a few leisurely rides on some horses (which will be on a lead) around the paddocks. This is always a popular activity so be quick to lasso your spot! Even if you don’t feel like a ride, Glenworth Valley is a beautiful place for a picnic, a stroll and a chance to meet, touch and feed the horses up close. So grab your jodhpurs, pull on your riding boots and giddy up with the Saturday team for another day of horsing around.

It is that time of year again when we get together with our friends from the Disabled Surfers Association for a day of surfing fun in the sun. Our day will start with a warm up paddling race in the Collaroy Beach pool before hitting the waves on the beach. A large number of volunteers and staff make this day accessible to everyone - especially for people who think that surfing might be out of their league. So be brave and come along for some surfing fun!

SURPRISE Senior Saturday Programmers! We are heading off on a wildlife camp to celebrate all things outdoors. We will be spending our weekend 'glamping'. This new phenomenon takes all the hassle out of camping, to leave the ease and simplicity of sleeping outdoors and having home cooked meals (prepared by someone else). We will be staying in a wildlife park with rangers who will be able to guide us around and show us the sights. This will be a fantastic time away and we look forward to seeing you then.

Today is the annual NBI Fun Day so we will be heading to Narrabeen Primary School to celebrate the end of the year with many other members of the NBI Family. Jumping castles, face painting, pony rides, and a BBQ are just some of the activities on hand. Today we are off to Aubrun botanical gardens. Boasted as one of Sydneys top 10 parks it sure does have it all. On 9.2 hectres it includes,: a reflection pool, a sunken rose garden, a scented garden, a billabong, peacocks, swans and native birds wander freely around the garden and of course most importantly a very large equal access playground with a liberty swing. So come along to explore what may just be one of Sydneys best kept secrets.

Barefoot Bowling and a BBQ, what a perfect combination! Today's activity has us turning the centre into barefoot bowling of the outdoor variety. After building up a bit of an appetite on the bowling green we are going to spark up the BBQ and cook up a feast. Saturday October 22 Dance Off!! (Combined Centre)
This activity is for those of you who know how to bust a move on the dance floor! Today we will be doing everything dance related and more. We will test out our skills with a dance off competition, watch some dancing moves, play dance twister and anything else we can come up with! Maybe even a Saturday program dance routine? Today the Saturday program staff will be getting together to have a think about planning the next year of activities, learning about admin procedures, OHS & all manner of other fun and interesting things. Saturday November 12 Festival of Fishers Ghost (JO)
Almost four months after the mysterious disappearance of local farmer, Fred Fisher, in 1826 a strange occurrence took place in a local hotel. On that memorable night, a wealthy and respectable farmer, John Farley, stumbled into a local hotel in a state of shock. John claimed he had seen the ghost of Fred Fisher sitting on the rail of a bridge over a creek. The ghost pointed to a paddock down the creek then faded away.Each November, the legendary Festival of Fisher's Ghost comes alive in Campbelltown. The Festival is steeped in history, dating back to 1956. There will be a street fair, craft exhibition, a giant carnival and more! If in doubt, check it out!

Before long we will be burninig around the normally serene streets of the local area - raaaaahhhh! Staffing News: Lauren Rice goes casual! The Group Rec team is sad to announce that legendary Team Leader Lauren Rice will be resigning from her position in the coming weeks to put more time into her PHD and research work. Staffing:
Leah Sharkey: As you may have noticed in the last roster we had a farewell for our dear friend Leah. She is off to explore South America, Central America and Canada for the next 6 to 10 months. However she has promised to keep working with us when she returns!
Emily Cottman: You may have been introduced to Emily on the school holiday programs as the new Holiday Program Coordinator. She now going to add Saturday Program Coordinator to her role. She will be in the office most days of the week and you can catch her on the program every second or third Saturday. Please give her a big warm welcome when you meet her.
Lauren Rice: I have decided to go back to studying and have recently started a PhD at the Brain and Mind Research Institute as Sydney University. However I will continue on as the Saturday Program Team Leader so I will still be at the program every Saturday and in the office every Friday.

Today (thanks to Jesse H's request) Saturday Juniors are heading out to Fox Studios to experience the thrill and exhilaration of Laser skirmish. Ahoy me Hearties! Today the senior group is heading out for a day of fun on Cockatoo Island. This island is not only home to a bunch of cockatoos but also used to house convicts, bushrangers and was a school for wayward boys and girls! Cockatoo island has had a very colourful past! We are heading out on a ferry and taking a tour to explore this unique and fascinating island. After the tour we will have a leisurely picnic in the extensive parklands and just relax for the rest of the afternoon.

Wheelchairs welcome! Today we are going to celebrate the fun things you can do when it is cold as we head out west to the spectacular Sydney Ice Arena. We are able to cater to every ability level so don't be put off if you think you can't stay upright on the ice. Wheelchairs are more than welcome on the rink and we have other ways of getting people out on the ice and giving them a fantastic experience - After the skating we will head out to a nearby park and thaw out in the warm sunshine. Saturday December 18 Christmas Craft (Junior Centre)
Only seven more sleeps until Santa comes! So to get us in the festive mood we are going to make our very own Christmas decorations. We will make baubles, personalise a Christmas stocking and decorate ginger bread men all while singing along to our favourite Christmas tunes.

Saturday December 18 Carols in the Domain (Senior Outing)
We will be doing our best to look Christmassy, cool and trying not sing too loud. We are heading into the big show in the Domain where we can have a picnic supper while the stars sing to us. By the soft glow of thousands of candles we'll go all warm and fuzzy. All together now..ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Saturday January 08 Barefoot Bowls and BBQ (senior centre)
Barefoot Bowling and a BBQ, what a perfect combination! Today's activity has us turning the centre into barefoot bowling of the outdoor variety. After building up a bit of an appetite on the bowling green we are going to spark up the BBQ and cook up a feast. There's no need to bring any BBQ food (unless you have any special requests), just bring yourself and your bowling feet.

Saturday January 08 Adventures of Paddington Bear (Junior Outing)
For those of you who do not know Paddington bear is a polite immigrant bear from Peru, carrying a battered suitcase and with a love for marmalade sandwhiches he is one of England's best known children's literature figures. Today we are heading to the Genesian Theatre in the city to see a play that brings Paddington to the stage as he fumbles and tumbles his way from one misadventure to another in a production filled with music, songs and lots of fun!

Saturday January 15 Horseriding at Glenworth Valley
(senior outing)
Who want's to be a cowboy (or cowgirl) baby...? Because today we will be travelling up north to the beautiful Glenworth valley to check out all the picturesque rolling green hills and valleys. We will be hiring some horses and having a few rides around the paddocks. Even if you don't get on a horse today, Glenworth Valley is a beautiful place for a picnic, a stroll and a chance to meet, touch and feed the horses up close. So grab your jodpurs, pull on your boots and giddy up for another day of horsing around.

We always try to show our participants the many wonders of Sydney, today will be no different. Clifton Gardens is a quiet little beach/park in Mosman which will be great for the juniors to explore. Swimming and bushwalking are two of the main activities available today.

Saturday January 22 Manly Dam Olympics (Combined Outing)
Calling all you Saturday Program Olympians - get set to compete (or just relax and cheer from the sideline) at this ultimate sporting event. The competitive arena is the picture perfect Manly Dam and with an event to suit everyone, all you athletes should get into training now! A BBQ lunch and a cool dip await at the finish line!

Saturday January 29 Treasure Hunt (Senior Outing)
Buried treasure awaits! All aboard HMAS (actually the bus but it will look a little like a ship on the day). Today we are going on a voyage with a difference. When we find the first clue at Arranounbai we'll set sail. By following the clues we find and with a few games along the way, we will find ourselves in our lovely final destination, to play in the sun and have a picnic lunch. So come along as we hoist the flag, set sail and find that treasure chest!

Saturday January 29 Train Trip To Woy Woy (junior outing)
Hey, there goes a moo cow! Hey, look it's a monkey! Quick glimpses through the window and gone forever. As the scenery whizzes by we'll stretch out and enjoy the gentle chugga chugga rythm of the train as we "toot toot" all the way to Woy Woy on the North Coast. The day will be broken up with a relaxing picnic and stretch of the legs. So all aboard….

Saturday February 05 Drumming Workshop (combined centre)
Today at the centre we'll be getting our hands on drums, shakers, bells and other African instruments and our Master Drummer from Africa will lead us in rhythm games, stories
dancing and singing in an awesome workshop of fun beats. At the workshop we will be joined by the Peer Support crew who will be there to help us raise the roof!
