We'd like to say THANK YOU to all our wonderful volunteers who work across all NBI programs - those who volunteer on the Board of Management, who help with fundraising events, with administration, technology and raising awareness of NBI.  You play such an integral part in the success of what we do and we value your contribution enormously.


Volunteer Week Celebration

To celebrate Volunteer Week, we would like to invite all volunteers to attend a social event . . . Rock n Bowl - a fun outdoor bowling experience!

Basic Communication & Songs Sign Language Workshop

In this workshop, participants will learn over 80 signs, 50 of which have been selected for their use in day-to-day life, and an additional 30 signs that will add to the beauty of simple songs.

There is an emphasis on how to use the signs to facilitate communication between the adult and the child and shows how signing can greatly enhance songs.  This is a very good workshop for those just starting in the use of signs or those wishing to revise.  Some printed material will be provided

Sing and Grow
Building stronger families through music

Making Music Time a Success workshops are aimed at building confidence in using music with young children.  This hands-on workshop is based on the Sing & Grow resource book "Making Music Time a Success : A Guide for Using Music to Engage Families with Young Children".

This workshop will be facilitated by a Sing & Grow trained Registered Music Therapist and supported by NBI staff.

Family Advocacy : Inclusive Education at High School

Family Advocacy is holding a one day workshop presented by Dr Bob Jackson entitled "Why stop now : Inclusive education at high school".  This workshop is for parents and education professionals keen to support students with disability to be included in regular classes.

The event will be helpful for families of students transitioning to and already at high school.  Strategies will also be offered on how to foster social inclusion.

Volume 2011 : Support for siblings of children with a disability or children of parents with a disability

Some places still remain for the Volume 2011 program - a school holiday program which is being run over 2 weeks during the Easter School Holidays.  Volume is free to all participants and is aimed at siblings of children with a disability or children of parents with a disability.

This program runs 9.30am-4.30pm each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and is based at St Kevin's Primary School in Dee Why.  Participants attend a chat group each day (peer group counselling session) and also take part in craft, an AFL clinic with AFL Sydney and a final excursion to an indoor climbing centre.

Powerchair Football - Freshwater

Come along and have a game of football - all ages welcome!

The Australian Powerchair Football Association wants to get enough people to play so they can get a competition going on the Northern Beaches.  All players will be new to the game so if you know anyone who may be interested, bring them along and everyone will learn together.
