Carolyn McKay – CEO
Carolyn has worked as a social worker and as a manager of not-for-profit and government organisations working with children, families and people with a disability in England and Australia for over 20 years. Carolyn is passionate about supporting and empowering people with disabilities and their families within their local community. She feels privileged to lead NBI with its great team of staff and volunteers and close connections to the families we support and our community.
Fred JP Van Steel – Chair
Fred joined the NBI Board following the integration of the organisation into Ability Options in June 2017. Fred joined Ability Options as CEO in 2013 with Tertiary and postgraduate qualifications in finance, economics, marketing, business administration and management, as well as a number of instructor qualifications in the leisure and commercial maritime industries in Australia and the UK. Fred also has experience with private equity firms on assignments with boards and CEO’s working on strategy restructures recovery and marketing expansion throughout Australasia.
Dudley Johnson – Treasurer
Dudley joined the NBI Board in June 2016 following the integration of NBI into the Ability Options community. He is currently Business Development Manager at Ability Options and has had extensive business experience in New Zealand in Finance, ICT, Mergers & Acquisitions and Project Management across a range of industries and recently in the Disability Sector in Australia. In his current role with Ability Options, Dudley is responsible for Integrations, and the transfer of ADHC Specialist Disability Services Group Homes in the Hunter and Mid North Coast.
Wayne Curry – Public Officer
Wayne joined the NBI Board in June 2016 following the integration of NBI into the Ability Options community. Wayne is currently Executive Leader of Community and Lifestyles at Ability Options. He has extensive experience with human services, leadership and management including developing managing and measuring the effectiveness and efficiency in disability emergency support and other community based services.
In his current role with Ability Options, Wayne is heading up transformational change in supporting employees, participants and their families during the progressive implementation of the NDIS.

Claire has significant corporate experience in financial and management roles; these include: General Manager – Daniel Bros and Co, CFO – Oracle Australia, CFO – Readers Digest Australia and NZ. Claire has been Practice Manager with Avalon Family Medical Practice since 2002. Claire has also held Board positions with Oracle and Readers Digest.
Claire is mother to Eddie, who is epileptic with autism and a global developmental delay. Claire joined the NBI Board in 2011.
B.Comm (Marketing), GAICD, IS Accredited Professional
Stephen is a senior executive manager with extensive leadership experience including over thirty years in general management, strategy development, consulting in change management, the sales and marketing of fast moving consumer goods and industrial, B2B and services marketing.
Stephen is currently involved in the development and execution of some of the most significant infrastructure projects in Australia with Lendlease Engineering. This involvement has also allowed Stephen to become more involved in the broader community through Co-Charing the All Abilities Executive Resourcing Group and has also ignited a passion for sustainability in Stephen.
Stephen has a great desire to contribute to local community based organisations and was very honoured to join the NBI board in 2016.
