NBI and bequests
NBI relies on the generosity of the community to support many of our programs and services for local children and adults with disabilities and their families.
Leaving a gift in your Will is a wonderful way to make a meaningful difference. A gift to NBI in your Will, no matter how big or small, will ensure that you help us to create a better future for children and adults with disabilities.
How to leave a bequest
Leaving a gift to NBI in your Will is simple;
A bequest is a gift made through a Will. A Will is a legal document and we strongly recommend that any change you wish to make is done in consultation with your lawyer.
You can make a bequest in different ways:
- Leave a specific sum of money
- Leave specific items, property, stocks and shares
- Leave the residual. This is what remains in your estate after specific gifts to loved ones and any costs have been distributed.
- Leave a specific percentage of the residue of your estate
- Leave the whole estate. This involves your entire estate and is usually gifted by people without other beneficiaries.
Suggested wording for your Will
An example of bequest wording is set out below, but should be only used as a guide for you and your solicitor. The exact wording will depend on the type of bequest you wish to make.
“I ______ give and bequeath unto Northern Beaches Interchange Inc, 2 Jacksons Rd Warriewood NSW 2102, ABN No 84 987 507 426, The sum of $__.__ (cash) and/or __% of my total estate (% of estate) and/or the residue of my estate (residue) and/or (specific description of property, shares, furniture, works of art etc), (personal property) and/or Life Insurance Policy No. _______ in (Company Name), (insurance policy) free of all duties, and a receipt of the Secretary or other authorised officer shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the executor(s)”.
The contents of your Will are private and NBI is grateful for any bequest regardless of the amount. However, knowing your intentions will help us plan for the future.
If you decide to let us know that you have made a bequest, we will appreciate the chance to thank you in person.
