Have you ever wanted to make a difference in someone’s life? Volunteering is a fantastic way to give back to your community while having lots of fun.

At NBI, we are always on the lookout for fun-loving, reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to help us run our programs and activities. Without these volunteers, some of the services that we provide to people living with a disability on the Northern Beaches just wouldn’t happen.

We have a range of options for anyone looking to volunteer with us.

Become a Host

If you are willing to open your home (and your heart) to a child with a disability, then the Host Program could be for you.

As a Host, you would be carefully matched to a child with a disability, be gradually introduced to them, before spending a regular period of time with them, usually once or twice a month.

The time you spend together can be in your home, or out and about in the community.

The Host Program provides an opportunity for a child with a disability to have a little fun and create new friendships. At the same time this program supports local families, giving parents a short break, while their child is supported by their Host.

To become a Host you can be an individual, a couple or a family. The only prerequisite is that you live locally and have a big heart!

If you’d like to learn more about becoming a Host, please give us a call on 9970 0500 today, or listen to some of Our Host Stories here.

Become a Group Recreational Volunteer

At NBI we run a wide range of fun and social activities for groups of children, teens and adults living with a disability. These activities provide an opportunity for those attending to learn new skills, make new friends and have some fun.

To become a volunteer, the only prerequisite is that you are able to commit to attending an activity at least once a month, or regularly during school holidays, so that you can offer regular support, regular friendship and a familiar face to the kids, teens or adults attending the activity.

Get some Experience in the Disability Sector

At NBI, we offer work experience placements for High School Students who are interested in a career working with people with a disability. We will work with you to match you to the right volunteer opportunity, before we provide training and support to help you succeed. Work experience placements with NBI will allow you to develop new skills while giving you a taste of what it is like to work in the disability sector.

Is the Disability Sector for you?

If you are interested in volunteering with NBI or in the disability sector more generally, you might like to check out this on-line induction training resource. It provides a comprehensive induction to the sector and you get a certificate for each module completed. You do not need to complete the training before applying for a volunteer position with NBI, but it is a basic requirement for new volunteers joining NBI.

Please call us today on 9970 0500 to get involved!
