Volunteering is amazing!
Make a real difference to your community and have a lot of fun!
Hosts provide fun and friendship and support local families.
Our Host program links volunteer ‘hosts’ that are willing to open their homes and hearts to a child with a disability. Hosts come from all walks of life and can be singles, couples or families.
Hosts are carefully matched with a child, gradually introduced to then spend time with that child on a regular basis, usually 1-2 times per month, either at home or in the community. This provides fun and friendship for the child and “time out”for the parents.
We have a great number of family stories that explain the value of this wonderful program in the lives of the volunteers as well as the host families themselves. Register your interest as a volunteer Host here and find out more.
Group Recreation Volunteer
Come out and have some fun!
At NBI we run an awesome range of leisure activities for groups of children and adults with disabilities. These activities provide the opportunity to build friendships and have volunteers come along to at least one activity per month or regularly during school holidays.
Please express your interest in volunteering by applying for a position or contact us.
What’s in it for me?
We’ll train and support you to succeed, and you’ll experience new challenges, make new friends and build new skills.
Volunteers are vital to the continued success of fundraising, events and activities offered here at NBI. We will work with you to match you with the right volunteer opportunity for you and your skills. We can also offer work experience placements for High school students who are interested in a career working with people with a disability.
If you are interested in volunteering with NBI or in the disability sector more generally, you might like to check out this on-line induction training resource. It provides a comprehensive induction to the sector and you get a certificate for each module completed. You do not need to complete the training before applying for a volunteer position with NBI, but it is a basic requirement for new volunteers joining NBI.

Some words from our volunteers:
“I could not recommend being a Host highly enough. Seeing the joy on his face when I arrive to pick him up is priceless.”
“All we ever wanted was for him to feel accepted, to feel content and to be independent… his Host family contributed to all three in his life”
– Ann Marie
“I knew that I wanted to give something back but I had no idea it could be such fun!”
